The name Ferrari is synonymous with aesthetically conscious design, powerful engines, constant technical innovation and one of the most influential figures in the history of motoring. With boundless vision and an unbridled passion for motorsports, Enzo Ferrari helped his company achieve unparalleled prestige and created a timeless legend. Montblanc dedicated the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition to this man and his passion for racing. Inspired by both the coat of arms of Enzo Ferrari's hometown - Modena - and the emblematic shade of the team's logo, this edition pays homage to the second soul of Ferrari: yellow. The dates of Enzo Ferrari's birthday and his first race win are engraved on the cone, while the upper part of the cap is engraved with his signature and the name of his father's workshop, "Officina Meccanica Alfredo Ferrari", a reference to his birthplace. It is embellished with the Montblanc emblem made of precious blue resin, a further tribute to the Modena coat of arms, and enhanced by an intricate metal work that recalls the grille of a vintage car. Enzo Ferrari's first victory, at the Savio Circuit, was also the occasion that marked the beginnings of the now famous Ferrari logo. Among the numerous spectators admiring Enzo Ferrari's reckless driving that day was the family of Italian flying ace Francesco Baracca, who in the First World War had served in the same division as Enzo's brother, Dino. Francesco Baracca's mother, Countess Paolina Biancoli, suggested that Enzo Ferrari use the emblem of a prancing and unbridled horse from her son's plane on his racing cars as a good luck charm. Being associated with the courage and will to dominate of a national hero, the endorsement was the ideal symbol for Enzo. Nine years later, the Prancing Horse was used for the first time on a yellow background to decorate a car. It was 1932 at the 24 Hours of Spa and the Ferrari team achieved first and second place with two cars sporting the Prancing Horse. The Prancing Horse is engraved on the cap of the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition, along with the Countess' words: "It will bring you luck". The first car made by Ferrara, the 125 S, with twelve cylinders, left the Maranello factory on 12 March 1947. Twelve engraved lines symbolize the twelve cylinders. Enzo Ferrari's motto, “You cannot describe passion, you can only live it”, decorates the ruthenium-finished clip.
